singapore zoo: night safari

The zoo closes at 6pm and the night safari opens at 7pm. So we had one hour for dinner. We finished early so the little girl had time to play around while her daddy was just so glad to take some shots.

First that we saw was a fire dance. Then upon entering further, we heard someone calling out for invitations to watch an animal show. So we entered the “coliseum”.

By the time that the animal show ended, there were lots of people in the zoo. And the queue for the tram was very long. We saw the nocturnal animals but it was too dark to take pictures as flash photography is strictly prohibited. Not only might you scare the animals, you might also get them blind!

Unfortunately we were too tired to walk the different exciting trails. Trails are the reason to go to the night safari, and we didn’t do it. Tsk tsk.

Singapore Zoo: elephant ride

For one, I know our daughter likes seeing tigers, lions and monkeys… from afar. She starts getting scared when an animal gets too near. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s because she was disappointed she missed to dip into the wet play area of the zoo, but she was eager to explore the zoo that day. *wink*

Then she saw some people riding an elephant while we were touring the zoo riding the tram. In my opinion, the elephant looks young and healthy. No need for cholesterol treatments. Hahaha.

We had to get off the tram to grant her simple request, that we ride the elephant too. Surprising, isn’t it?

*This is a photo of the purchased photo. Too lazy to scan it. Photo is worth S$20.

Singapore Zoo: KIDZWORLD

Lesson learned.

No matter how many times that your child expressed her fear of water fountains or swimming pool, always bring her swimsuit on family trips. You’ll never know.

Every family trip, we never fail to bring our DSLR and digital cameras. Husband even brought 3 lenses for this trip. While packing our bags, I even saw three new swimsuits of our daughter that have yet to be worn. I didn’t bring them as I have no swimming time in our itinerary.

Bad decision. When we arrived the Singapore Zoo, I saw on some of the posters that they have what they call “wet play”. I dismissed it knowing my daughter isn’t too fond of water play anyway. I saw on the zoo map that the Kidzworld has a carousel, my daughter’s favorite. So while the husband took shots, my daughter and I headed to Kidzworld. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the ticket booth, we were told that the carousel is under renovation.

When my daughter saw the wet play area, she told me she wanted to “swim”.

U-oh! It was only one hour before closing time (zoo closes at 6pm) and the swimsuit being sold in their store is too expensive for an hour of use. Well, of course, she can use the swimsuit again but still, I can’t dismiss that she has tons at home, and I didn’t like the style and colors of those being sold.

I explained to her that we can go swimming when we get back to the Philippines, and that she can play in the playground instead. She agreed. Whew!

zoobic safari: Croco Loco

One of the trivia (or maybe we can just call it information that I missed out when I was still in school haha) that I learned when we went to the Croco Loco is to distinguish a crocodile from the alligator. That crocodiles have pointy snout while the alligators have rounded ones. But for us, simple people, this little info is not much of a help as we all know, both are dangerous.

These two seemed to pose for us. Look closely. Don’t they remind of bags and shoes? Or perhaps, your favorite anti wrinkle face cream? Kidding.

I suddenly remember a shirt of one wild animal rescuer that says “I catch wild animals for a living. If you see me running, try to catch up.” Witty but wouldn’t you take his advice seriously?

zoobic safari: Savannah

Savannah is the part of the zoobic safari tour where your car or the train-like zoo vehicle passes by the animals roaming around such as ostriches, goats, and sheep.

As their website says, get a peck on the cheek, which sounds like fun, really. But when you’re there, it kind of freaks you out. It felt like my head had started to be filled with fear. That’s how I felt. I tried to calm down and had small talk with my sisters-in-law. Of all, we started talking about best acne treatment. Plus, I was staying in the middle of the “train” just so that I don’t get accidentally kissed by the ostriches.

zoobic safari: Tiger Safari / Close Encounter

Are you brave enough? :D

The biggest attraction for the Zoobic Safari is the Tiger Safari where one gets to ride a close caged jeepney that goes near the tigers who roam around. One has an option to buy chicken meat for only P200 and someone from the zoo will feed it to the tiger while you to watch.

Afterwhich, the tour goes on to the “close encounter” wherein one can go near the tigers in cages.

Before I read these acne product reviews, let me just share with you one of the photos we took of the other jeepney and a tiger.

I’m not sure why but when our jeepney stops near a tiger, the tiger walks away.
